In the heart of the old town a few steps away from the historical harbor there is this charming little square.
The name it’s given by the ancient ice storages that characterize the square, which in the past were used to preserve fish and other foods in the winter months. They were known as “Conserve” and they have been used from the 16th to the early 20th century, in the past there used to be 20, but now only 3 survive. The charming little square is the ideal location for the typical farmers’ market, which is held every day, or the Nativity representation for Christmas. In summer a lot of activities take place here, such as the Flea Market, held every Monday evening in the classical as well as the classical music festival: “Notturni alle Conserve”.
